My journey with the game of baseball began at the budding age of 5 years old, and as soon as I stepped on the diamond I knew that I had discovered my passion. Throughout my little league years I experienced a lot of natural success, but it wasn’t until my 10th Grade season that I recognized my raw talent could only take me so far. At the post-season meeting with my summer ball coach, Justin Fanony, he helped me realize my goal of becoming a successful baseball player demanded tireless determination and work ethic. I began hitting every morning in my garage before school and lifting weights. Sure enough, by the end of my 11th grade season my batting average and on-base percentage increased immensely from .140/.302 to .372/.500. I believe that all athletes have equal opportunity to be great in their own unique ways, but it's those who choose to relentlessly push themselves day-in and day-out and commit to achieving success are the ones that ultimately prosper in the end.
I can now—unlike my previous years— credit my success to hard work. Despite all the stats and accolades, I think my work ethic, grit, and commitment to team success is what separates me from other players. I learned early that baseball isn't about being the "star player" but rather it's about staying within yourself to get your job done and pick your teammates up. My new focus played a huge role in my successful 11th grade season as I was honored to receive "Defensive Player of the Year" award for the second straight year along with helping my team improve our record from 3-12 to 8-8.
In spite of my love and passion for the game of baseball, I am realistic in the fact that I probably won't be afforded the opportunity to play professionally, so academics are of the utmost importance. Taking on multiple AP and Honors courses in all three years of high school thus far has too required hard work and persistence, but I have managed to keep a 3.99 GPA en route to being ranked 4th in my class and receiving the Olympic League's Scholar Athlete award. I'm fully committed to excelling in the classroom and ultimately preparing myself for the future.
I believe that my unique combination of athleticism, acumen, and tenacity can prove to be a valuable asset to any team. If I continue to follow the path my family and I have created, I know that I will consistently progress towards my goal of being a great baseball player, as well as successful and accomplished student-athlete. Rest assured, if given the opportunity, it will be an honor represent your program.
