Personal Statement

Baseball has been a focal point for me since I began playing at the age of five. Although I have played competitive soccer, basketball, and run varsity cross country, baseball is the game with which I want to go to the next level.  At age five, baseball was a way to have fun and make friends. As the years progressed, I still have fun and it became a passion that fueled me to be competitive and better myself on and off the field. Baseball has taught me life lessons such as  goal setting, time management, and leadership which is evidence by me being named captain of my AAU team. My love for the game has given me the opportunity to travel and play in many places, and I want it to lead me to the next level. I'm coachable, adaptable, and flexible in the face of any challenge or competitive scenario that I face.  I am a positive influence on and off the field and my attitude and actions encourage my teammates to be better competitors themselves. I’ve been characterized as a sparkplug at practice and in the dugout, and bring out the best in my teammates. I also have been described as a pressure player and as clutch by my coaches and teammates, and praised for my offseason and practice work ethic which translates to in-game performance. Through hard work and dedication, I earned the  starting position at shortstop on our varsity high school team as a sophomore, beating out the previous junior starter. What makes me different from the rest, is my dedication and respect for the game and the desire to never be out done. This is how I was given the nickname “go hard” by my high school teammates. Given the opportunity, I will bring these attributes to the collegiate level and contribute to the team, while representing them and the school with dignity and respect as a high performing member of the team.
