Personal Statement

I think you would like me on your team because I am a good academic student and a student of the game of baseball.  I pride myself in being a good athlete with a nice body frame to work with.  As a Junior this fall I am 6’2” and 168lbs.  In playing soccer and basketball it has been hard to put on weight, though I still look to grow.  My Grandfather is 6'5", and my Mother and Aunts range from 5'11" to 6'2".  Last year as a sophomore I earned Varsity 1st team All Conference Honors in Baseball (78 Ks in 51 innings) and Soccer (17 goals 22 games), as well as Honorable Mention Basketball (Point Guard).
As an 8 and 10yr old I participated in the Pitch-Hit-Run finals held at the MLB All-Star Games.
I am comfortable on the mound and in the field, because when I was 11 and 12 yrs old I played up an age with our teams playing in USSSA Baseball Tournaments.  Our USSSA team won the 12U-A National Finals Tournament and in the 13U-AA National Finals our team placed 5th.
As a LHP I have command of my pitches (YouTube.com  Fr & Soph clips).  Last summer my fastball peaked at 78 mph, but even when behind in the count I am capable of throwing my breaking ball or change-up for strikes to good hitters to get back even in the count.  Holding runners on is one of my best skills as a pitcher.  I use a quick step back and have an above average move to first.  Plus I like to vary my pace, even quick pitching hitters who are not paying attention as they get into the box.
I grew up playing SS through my JR Legion (14yr) season.  I feel playing SS helped me make the transition to playing 1B, both fielding and foot work around the bag.
As a Hitter I have spent the majority of my time in the 1 or 2 hitting slot in the line-up.  I have a good eye and hit to all fields.
My father is Steve Sagedahl and I feel that I have a competitive edge because of his background.  He pitched in the New York Yankees Farm System.  He was the U of Minnesota Pitching Coach for the 1982 Big Ten Champions.  He also worked with the 1983 USA Olympic Committee & Dr. Jim Andrews on "High Speed Film Analysis of the Throwing Motion".  Then in 1984 he lectured at the USA Olympic Committee's Seminar on "Throwing Mechanics from the Pitching Coach's Point of View".

  • Chas Sagedahl is a 2017 LHP/1B with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Prairie Du Chien, WI who attends Prairie Du Chien HS. Large frame, slender, wiry build with long levers, has plenty of room to fill out. Primary left handed pitcher, side step delivery with slight coil and hip turn at apex of leg lift. Slight crossfire release, rotates hips well and repeats delivery fine. Works to a 3/4's arm slot with loose, clean arm-action, hides the ball well behind hip. Ball comes out well, fastball up to 79 mph, shows riding life and late jump with arm side run. Solid command of the offering, sets up entire arsenal. Has feel for breaking ball with 1/7 shape and occasional sweeping action, has ability to add and subtract velocity and throw both varieties for strikes. Mixed in a rare changeup, can get under the ball a bit with hand position, but has solid arm speed, projects to be solid third pitch. Pounded the strike zone well. Also worked out at first base, fields ball out in front, comes through the ball well and flashed soft hands, ability to pick the ball. Left handed hitter, low hands set with longer, fluid swing. Front side can open a bit early, but shows feel for the barrel in contact-oriented approach. Good student. PG Grade 7.5
