My name is Madison Hannam, aka Maddy. I am a Junior at George Hewlett High School in Hewlett, NY. My scholastic goal is to study Journalism and I have already attained 2 college credits in this subject. I aspire to enroll at a University where I will thrive academically and also be a part of a substantial Cheer team where my specialties as a Cheerleader can be showcased. I have been an athlete for my entire life or at least for as long as I can remember. Starting sports at a very young age, I have been a part of a Jump rope team, competitive swim team, competitive dance team, competitive Gymnastics Team (USAG), and now I've found my niche in All Star Cheerleading (USASF), where I feel at home. To give a bit more background about my athletic journey that lead me to my sport of Cheerleading, I started gymnastics at age 8, level 4. I had obtained level 9 skills and status at gymnastics when I decided to listen to that little voice in my head that always made the prospect of being a Cheerleader seem so exciting. I transitioned from gymnastics to Cheer a little past the start of the Cheer season and so had to be evaluated by the coaches directly. Upon evaluation at Platinum Athletics Cheer (PAC), I qualified for level 5 full year team, and competed in my very first Cheer competition the following month. This was a proud moment for me. The following competition year I was the only athlete at the gym to compete the 3 top elite levels (4, 5, and 6). I must also add that I started Cheer as a back spot, and the following year I was a side base and a back spot. In this year's routine I main base mostly, but also side base, back spot, and even fly. Because of this I've earned the nick name 4 for 4. Throughout my athletic career, I have been known for my physical strength and mental determination. This is especially important in Cheer where other team members depend on me to keep them safely in the air. Cheer to me is amazing. It offers me the opportunity to combine my previous experiences such as dance and acrobatics into one fun filled, beautiful, and rewarding sport. I love Cheerleading
I am a fit candidate because my life long commitment of time to my sports and teams, especially gymnastics where I trained 5-6 day's per week, helped me understand the principles of discipline and tolerance. This I believe sets me aside from other recruits. The drive that I have to show up, do my best, support my team members, respect my coaches, I acquired at a very young age. The discipline I have is invaluable to me and has enabled me to become a successful cheerleader today. I have specialized skills that allow me to be a part of a great sport that I thoroughly love and enjoy.
