I became a field hockey player by chance and good luck. One of my close friends was being forced by her parents to tryout late for the team, and in order to make her more comfortable, I agreed to tryout with her. On my second practice, the coaches announced the need for a goalie, as ours had been injured. I was excited by the opportunity to engage in another new experience, so I decided to try it out. I was instantly enchanted. I feel like I picked up the goalkeeping basics quickly, which I attribute to my previous soccer skills, determination, and coachability!
Playing field hockey has helped me in many aspects of my life. It has assisted me with managing a demanding high school schedule, the time spent doing my schoolwork, and other extracurriculars. I also have improved with communication with my teachers, which I feel has come from my comfortability communicating with teammates. The various leagues and far tournaments with my club team has not only improved my ability to adapt to adversity, but has also made me more responsible in managing all of my affairs. Because of these developed qualities, I feel that I will thrive on any team, and I look forward to contributing to a collegiate setting!
