I had no idea what I was doing my first season of playing field hockey. Sure, I did clinics & little tournaments before, but never had I truly been on a team. I was in 7th grade & terrified to play with the older girls: the high schoolers. I didn't really know anything at the beginning of the season, but as time progressed I learned some of the most important lessons I will ever learn.
I learned that trusting & working with your team is going to get you so much further than trying to do it on your own, that versatility is essential, that failure is inevitable & if you learn from your mistake that it isn't really a failure at all, that, man, I really love field hockey, that you'll only find success if you're willing to put in the work, & that getting outside of your comfort zone is truly the best way to improve in all aspects.
Now I'm going into my junior year field hockey season & I'm beyond excited to continue learning what field hockey has to teach me. I hope to continue learning these lessons for as long as I can: through high school, college, and beyond, as they have made me the player and person I am today.
My love for the game makes me very committed to bettering myself to become a stronger player for myself & my team. Hard work and determination are both essential to being a strong athlete, & I believe I have those qualities. Whether I am diving to reach a far ball, finishing the last set of sprints, or anything else, I will always push my hardest to get the job done. That is why I believe I can play field hockey at the collegiate level: hard work, commitment, and determination.
