Achieveing my dream of playing Field Hockey at the collegiate level has special meaning to me. While we all face challenges, I feel that I have to work harder than my peers, on and off the field, to achieve my goals due to a birth defect on my left side. I was born without fingers on my left hand and a slightly smaller palm and left thumb. My limbs on the left side are unnoticeably smaller, as well. While this difference has made ordinary, everyday things a little more challenging for me, I have never seen myself as impaired. In fact, I see my difference as my greatest strength! It has made me the driven and tenacious person that I am and it has taught me the invaluable lesson of achievement through hard work and discipline. Often times, I need to find a different way to do common place tasks, but this has only proven to me that everything is possible and that we only need to look at obstacles from different angles to see the way around them. In my sports and in my life, I strive to show everyone around me through my own actions, successes and stumblings alike, that we can all achieve our dreams, no matter the size. Playing Field Hockey at the collegiate level is a dream for me and one that I fully intend to realize. And I look forward to being a successful student athlete and a leader, on and off the field!
