Personal Statement

Dear Prospective Coaches.  It is difficult for me to find the exact words to explain how excited and nervous I am to be thinking about going away to college and hopefully playing football.  Football for me has been a passion since I started playing in the 7th grade.  School on the other hand has always been a struggle.  I had to be held back a grade because language was difficult for me to master when I was young.  I have always managed to get good grades, but with the help on an IEP.  Now I am older, I am working VERY hard to overcome my struggles and committed to doing well in school.
When I go to college, I hope to major in physical education or physical therapy/fitness.  When I am not playing football, my second love is going to the gym and working out.  I feel that is a good direction to go in since that is what I enjoy.  Two years ago, my good friend and team mate Shane took me under his wing.  At that time I was a 190 pound, 6' 3" toothpick.  He took me to work out every day pushed me very hard.  At times he was so hard on me I wanted to never talk to him. He made me so mad at times.  Then he received a scholarship to the Oregon Ducks.  I saw what hard work, focus and determination can get you.  I want to follow in my good friends footsteps and make him proud of me.
When I am not in the gym, and out of football season I enjoy other school athletics.  I do Wrestling, Track, and ROTC Competition.  I also volunteer at the Yakima Pet Rescue. Volunteering was initially a required activity for school that I really resented.  My mother and I both signed up, and we loved the animals so much, two years later we still volunteer.  I Also work part-time at Dairy Queen.  My parents told me that I didn't have to get a job as long as my grades were good and I was in some sport activity, they would get me a car.  But I think I SHOULD contribute anyway.  I am proud to have a good work ethic.  Along with my Dairy Queen job, I am a certified Life Guard.  So this summer I will be working as a lifeguard too.
It is very hard to keep up with school, my workouts and working.  I do not get a lot of down time.  But I am driven, and focused.  I know exactly what I want.  I want to play football!!!  I want to work my tail off and learn to be the best athlete I can be.  I feel I have so much to give and learn, I am looking to play for coaches willing to teach me.  I want to play football for the NFL.  I know that is a very difficult goal.  But that is my aspiration.  I hope to get a great education in physical fitness/therapy and help others maintain good health and fitness.  I would love to inspire other people like my good friend inspired me.
I am prepared for how hard college will be and a tough football program. Nothing worthwhile is easy, I have learned that.  Every time I have tried to take the easy way or not be prepared,  I have suffered the consequences. I have learned when I did not take advise from my mom and dad, or coaches, it really came back to bite me.   Where ever I end up, I promise to be a good role model to others, a hard worker and make my coaches, team mates and professors proud.
Sincerely,
William Wyatt Peterson

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
