My first ever experience with football was last year as a freshman tryouts. I quickly fell in love with the sport and through hard work and quick study, I not only made the varsity team, I actually started a few games as Offensive Tackle. I put in a lot of work in the off season while playing two other sports to be ready for sophomore year and earned myself a spot as starting Nose Guard and Offensive Tackle on our varsity team. It was a scrimmage and 1 game into this sophomore season, at practice on a Wednesday, that coach told me I needed to be the starting Center for Friday's game. I had no experience at this position, but I said, "Yes, coach" and spent the next 2 days watching YouTube videos on technique and doing over 200 snaps in preparation. I'm proud to say, I've held that position in addition to Nose Guard since that game. It's through situations like this that I know my coaches trust my adaptability and leadership on the field. They know that I will play anywhere I’m needed at a moment’s notice and are confident that not only will I give my all, but I will always push myself to be successful for my team.
One of my favorite games to date was during my sophomore year when we beat Mira Loma by a mere six points. It was a battle for the win and I was exhausted after playing on both sides of the ball the entire game against guys a lot bigger and with more experience than me. Despite being tired, I pushed myself harder and our team fought with fire to to the last second to earn the win. This was one of the games that taught me how much hard work and discipline pays off. It was this experience that solidified my confidence to see that I am capable of playing at the college level.
I am looking for a team and program that I will be able to support through not only physical ability but also mental preparedness and dedication. Being a three-sport scholar athlete, I believe I am fully capable of playing at the college level and will be beneficial to not only your team, but the university as a whole. I'm just as driven off the field as I am on it. When I'm not performing or training, I am dedicated to my studies. It's important to me to push myself mentally as well as physically. I've never really taken the easy route, I tend to find it a little boring. I'm at my best when I'm being challenged in the classroom as much as on the field.
