Hi, my name is Owen Meleka. I am a K/P for Maranatha High School in Pasadena, California. My goals in college are to make the starting lineup and make a Positive Contribution to the program as a whole. What makes me different from other recruits is that I am Hard Worker and Perseverance and can also handle adversity. Hardworking is one of my main qualities because a priority of mine is to always work tell failure in the weight room and on the field. This is because I believe, and my parents have told me, "that If you work hard at something you can do it." I also aspire to be my best in the Classroom because I know that there is a life after football and in order to get a good education and have a better life afterward you need to put your education first. Another one of my traits is Perseverance. An example of this is when I first started kicking, I signed up and joined the football team in my freshman year in the summer. I had always been a soccer player and had little experience with what it was like to be on a football team. But I wanted a change and wanted to kick because I felt I would be a Good Kicker considering my soccer background. The Head Coach called me into the office and asked why I wanted to kick and I told Coach that I wanted to be a Kicker because I had experience with soccer. At the time my coach didn't believe I would even show up to the first practice because he was a little skeptical I would be good let alone show up. But I showed up anyway and went through a whole summer of football practice kicking every day. That season we went 1-7 and finished last in the league. As a team, we had to persevere and face adversity and I myself had to use the hate and embarrassment of last season and put it into the weight room and on the field. The next season we went 11-1, 1st in League, CIF Semi-Finalist, 3rd in our CIF division, and I finished the season 9th in the state of CA for kpts. The Hard Work ended up paying off but we didn't win the ring so that is our goal next season. My HS career stats are 78/84 PAT, 4/6 FG LNG 36, and 90 KPTS total. Currently, I have earned a 3.24 GPA and am enrolled in 1 AP Honors Class (World History). In conclusion, I am a hard worker in the Classroom, On the Field, and In the Weight Room; I have also shown perseverance and can handle adversity throughout my HS career.
