My name is Rabinho Jaheem Pottinger, I am 16 years old and I attend Howard High School of Vo-Technology. All sports I have played has all been a recent pick up after the Covid-19 pandemic, with the shut down of the United States put me in a daze and not know what I could do from there. I was stuck, I didn't know how I could proceed forward with my life, until one day my mom forced me into a sport called lacrosse. Lacrosse put the love of sports back into my heart because I'm starting of scratch, before then I've never heard or lacrosse or even picked up an lacrosse stick to know all the rules and how I could play with maximum efficiency. I learned the sport in about a week of practice and determination to learn the sport. Our first game rolls around, I didn't get much playing time but I only saw that as more of a reason to work and be good at the sport I didn't even like at first but still wanted to be great at. That same day after the game I told my older brother about a football work out that my friend told me to try out for, my brother responds to me asking a question, "Do you really wanna play football? Like are you really serious about playing this sport?" I responded with, "Yes! I'm serious just teach me the basics." He nodded his head and we got in his car to get football cleats for the up coming work outs, as we are driving in the car he says we are going to be going to the field by my house to practice and get me ready for this workout. I was thinking in my head how hard could it be? I was already fast. We ran into the store and bought the cleats and drove back to the field, he helped me with my stance in both DB and WR, I learned it fast but it wasn't enough to go into high school with it. Skip forward into the day of work outs, the school football team was finishing their 7on7/ spring workout run so it kind of felt like I was a walk on but I really just wanted to get better. I texted my friend asking where he was there wasn't no reply but now I know why because the football group was working out, we all ended up going to the field where we would practice before their 7on7 game, I couldn't go because I came so late aka "Walk on" but I did stay and watch. Skip forward to freshman season, I haven't ever played a down of football in my life but I wasn't going to let it stop me from putting that work in, but I never forgot about lacrosse I barely played my first season but I ended up starting this year but we'll touch back on this later. Freshman year of football season was a buss for me but I was just focus on learning the game so I can turn up! Sophomore season was a 50/50 because I didn't even know if I wanted to play because of doubt but I always push through and this wasn't anything different. I worked so hard and achieved more this season and I could see it, my coaches could see it, as well as the older players. This season I played a little bit but I'm still working on earning a starting spot and get Offers, it all starts now so far I have been working out everyday, playing 7on7, doing field work based on my position, running routes, catching balls, and keeping my head forward. As far as lacrosse this past season I finished overall MVP and Most Improved player. As far as grades I still fight to keep my 3.0 GPA and get farther I feel like big thing are coming my way with this program and it all relys on my work ethic and dedication.
