Personal Statement
I am Bryce Wagner, a 6’7”, 335-pound senior from Spring Grove, a small town in Illinois. Football has been a major part of my life since the age of seven when I joined my first football team. I am a “young” senior, a year younger than the other students in my grade, who is goal-orientated and determined. Reaching my goals is how I measure my successes. I have adapted well to the offensive line; playing center in the youth leagues and then taking pride in playing primarily the left tackle position throughout my high school career. I also have experience at right tackle and have played on the defensive line when the “Big Hogs” were needed.
I had extremely high expectations for my senior season, both for the team and individually. I am very proud to say all were achieved except for the elusive state championship. As a captain for the varsity team, I utilized my leadership skills to guide and maintain unity among my teammates and success on the field. I am very pleased with the way our team played this season. We finished with a winning record and made an appearance in the first round of playoffs for the 4A conference.
I have been very honored to receive several awards and recognitions this year. In addition to being team captain, I was also chosen Most Valuable Lineman for my team, unanimously chosen as an All-Conference Player for the Big Northern Conference, and unanimously selected as a nominee for the Illinois All State team. It was my proudest moment yet to find out I had actually been chosen for the All-State team. I was recently invited to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL to attend the IHSA state playoff games and was recognized for this prestigious honor. I joined fellow teammates across the state in receiving this distinction. It was an experience I will never forget.
As I look to my future, I am eager to earn an opportunity to play football at the collegiate level and become a contributing student athlete. I want to be a leader to teammates and also gain friendships that last a lifetime. I want to develop my potential as an athlete and obtain an education which will benefit me later in life, all while growing as a man and a learning from my teammates, professors, and coaches. I am eager to learn all I can to succeed at the college level. I believe it is important to grow with a team, learn from seasoned players and coaches, and lead by example.
Thank you for taking the time to review my profile and I look forward to your favorable consideration.
