Personal Statement

Greetings Coach,

My name is Ian Imel. I am a 6 foot 1 inch, 190 pound senior at Frankton High School, where I participate in football as well as track. Football is my priority sport. I currently play slot receiver and running back on offense with the majority of my time spent as running back. On defense I play a outside linebacker and some safety in cover four situations. I also perform on special teams participating as both kickoff returner and punt returner.

(I also run varsity track, which is a good way to keep me in shape and increase speed and agility for football. I have run a 40 yard dash with a hand time at 4.6 seconds and an electric time of 5.0 seconds. This can be found on my SPARQ rating. I compete in the 100M, 200M, 400M, 4 by 400M. I have posted an 11.3 in the 100M, a time of 23.2 in the 200M, a time of 54.8 in the 400M.)

My last season (junior year) I was moved from slot receiver to running back six games into the season. After moving to running back I started the remaining five games in that position. For my efforts that year I received awards for: Team MVP, Anderson Herald Bulletin Impact Player of the Week, as well as All Conference Honorable Mention.

This year has been an unfortunate season for the team. However, I have been able to achieve 879 rushing yards in 179 carries. Currently, that places me as 2nd in total offensive yards for my conference.

At practice and on the field, you can always find me leading/coaching up the underclassmen. Sometimes I feel as though I coach more than I actually practice. I am always trying to teach and share my knowledge of plays, the game, routes, etc. As much as I can, not only do I serve as leader/coach; I try to lead by example. When I'm in the weight room I am pushing myself as far as I can. I am often the first to come and the last to leave practice. I have the same mentality on the practice field as well as the game field. I am always at the first of every drill line and you will never catch me not following a drill all the way through. When I am done with a drill or a sprint I make a point to cheer on my fellow team mates. As you might imagine, another dream is to one day become a head football coach at the college level.

With the goal of becoming a college football player and ultimately a head football coach, I will put forth the effort to make it happen. I will consider opportunities to play football at the Division I, II or III level. Where I go to school, in terms of location, does not really matter. Although I have a preference to stay in Indiana, I am willing to go where football takes me.

Although football means a great deal to me, obtaining an education and a bachelorâ??s degree means even more. A weighty factor will be visiting the campus, touring classrooms, meeting students, faculty and coaches, which will help me determine the best fit for my personality. My current GPA is a disappointing 2.5. I am working very hard to bring it up as much as I can this year. I understand grades are important and that my grades do need to improve for me to obtain the education and become the college athlete I want to be. I am working on it; I can assure you. I have posted a 1350 on the SAT already. I am scheduled to take the SAT again November 6, 2010. I am also scheduled to take the ACT October 23, 2010.

Like I mentioned earlier, my dream is to become a college football coach one day. During college I am interested in majoring in either psychology, business management and/or teaching. Although I have to admit, my ideas and opinions change all the time in terms of what Iâ??d like to study.

As potential college football player I am willing to play whatever the team needs, on either side of the ball- offense or defense. I will work hard and earn my opportunity to play. I would be perfectly fine with being red shirted a year or even grey shirted. In my four years of eligibility, I would set a personal goal for myself to be a starter at least two of those years.

Thank you very much for taking time to look at my profile. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you and God Bless!

Sincerely,
Ian Imel
