Personal Statement
Hey! I'm Josh!
Just to tell you a little bit about myself. I am an defensive end and tight end for the Pella Christian Eagles. I played for Newton High School in Newton, Iowa during my freshman and sophomore year, then transferred to Pella Christian for my junior and senior seasons.
In 2016, as a sophomore at Newton, (a 4A school) I had the privilege of being able to play on a varsity team that competed well against high level teams such as Valley, West Des Moines and Southeast Polk. During my time with the Cardinals, I was also selected as a 1st Team 4A District 4 Academic All-District student-athlete. I took the team aspect of football very seriously and was awarded with several individual team awards.
In 2017, I transfered to Pella Christian High School in Pella, Iowa. There, I was able to start on a 11-0 district championship team that made it to the state semifinals in the UNI-Dome to play Iowa City, Regina. In 2017, I was able to gain attention as a defensive end who racked up 6 sacks and 13.5 tackles for a loss. Our team made Pella Christian school history in 2017 as the first football team to make it to the Dome. It was an honor to be able to be a part of that. In 2018, we did the same thing, becoming the first back to back semifinal team. I was also selected to the IPSW All State Football team as a senior DE.
I have always lived and breathed football. Even in the offseason, the people around me often roll their eyes at my seemingly endless ability to talk about the sport I love. One thing that has always made me stand out from the crowd is what coaches call a "motor". I don't know how to slow down. I will play until the end of every snap in practice, so that I can perform until the end of every play in a game.
I have also always taken my opportunity for leadership in sports very seriously. When you're a 11-0 district championship team headed for the semi-finals, it can go to your head. Instead of becoming self-centered, I have tried to use the opportunities to honor God and positively lead those around me. If given the chance to play football in college, I promise that I will work the hardest on and off the field and continue that attitude of leadership. I will never quit. I'd be honored to be given the privilege to play football at the collegiate level.
As a student-athlete, I have always worked hard to balance schoolwork and sports. As I mentioned before, I have been honored with being an Academic All-District athlete for two years in a row. I currently have a 3.5 GPA. I recently took the ACT. My goal is a 28, and I was able to get a 30 on my first try.
I look forward to what the future holds. As I was elected team captain this year, I am attempting to become an even better leader. Wherever I attend college, I hope to pursue my love of history as a career and my passion of football in the process.
God Bless,
Josh
