Personal Statement
School and sports have taught me that hard work and dedication allows me to better myself academically and athletically. I always try to do the right thing and still know that we are not perfect and mistakes will be made. It is how we move on from those mistakes that building our character.
I am from a divorced family and I feel that growing up in two households has greatly influenced who I am as a person. I was fortunate to have both two loving and supportive parents and step-parents. I did not become interested in sports until middle school because my friends were playing so I decided to give it a try.
My biggest obstacle was starting to play ball in junior high while most of my friends had been playing since 5 or 6 years old. This has taught me that if you work hard enough you can accomplish anything and I look forward to seeing how far I can excel in my sport. I have come to understand that it takes time, effort, and sacrifice to be where you want to be in life.
I have learned quite a few things about myself playing sports…
*coach has a reason for the things he teaches us, even though we may not agree.
*when guys smack talk, laugh it off….
*if we are up and I can pass to a man that doesn’t get the opportunity to score, do it…that is who I am even though my grandfather thinks I need to score as much as possible.
*as long as I play at 110% in every game I am happy with the outcome…win or lose.
*life is short, we may not play at the next level so why sacrifice who I am as a person to get ahead.
I plan on continuing to work on a 4.0 and raising my ACT score. After graduating I will be going to a university to become a chiropractor. I look forward to what my future has in store for me.
