FG – For the rest of the season I want you to remain comfortable, so you finish out the season on a strong note. In the off season, I want you to start taking your steps walking backward facing the ball compared to walking with your back to the ball and turning after 3 steps. I think this will give you more consistency in the distance you are from the ball. The step measuring drills will be very helpful as you make this transition. In your stance, work on having a good forward lean and engaging your shoulders. On contact I want you to focus on locking out both knees on contact and having a proud chest with an athletic forward lean. This will allow you to generate more power and open up your hips to get your full leg swing. We worked on many contact and step drills that will be very helpful for you to practice those items I stated above. Finishing down the field to your target instead of off to the side will help you hit a higher, straighter ball. 2. KO– In your approach to the ball I think you can do a better job with your speed build up to the ball. You start of very slow but then dramatically increase your speed with no true build up. I would like to see more of a progressive increase in your speed as you get closer to the ball. This will help you to be under more control and be in the same position every time. I noticed on your follow through that your kicking leg does not extend up and through the ball. On kickoffs we want you to land on your kicking foot; on most of your kickoffs you seem to just take a step-down field vs following through onto your kicking foot. By coming through the ball more, you’ll see an increase in height and distance. Final Coaches Comments- - I had a lot of fun having you at camp. It was great to see you compete during charting and our competition. The drills we did for field goals will be very beneficial for you in the coming months. Take the time each drill deserves to improve each aspect of your kick/punt. I also appreciated how open you were to our coaching and trying to implement what we said during your kicks. Good luck with the rest of your season and I hope to see you out on the field again soon!
