Personal Statement
I plan on completing both an undergraduate and graduate degree though right now I cannot tell you what field of study I will pursue. I currently have a lot of personal interests and over the next few years many new opportunities and career options will become available. As much as I love competitive athletics I know that my long-term success will likely be based on what I study and learn during college and graduate school because few high school players reach college-level athletics and even fewer reach the professional ranks and even then most playing careers are short. maybe five years or less. So it is important that I keep things "real". I will compete as hard as I can on the field but I will leave school with at least one degree in my hand.
I want to find a college-level football program that matches my skill level, experience and potential, and the school I attend has to match my academic capabilities and provide the sort of environment that I desire. I know that I have under-performed in high school in terms of my studies because my grades are so far below my tested potential. So, I am dissatisfied with my school record even though I have done well in my athletics at several different varsity-level sports. Since my long-term financial security and professional career path and my being able to provide for my future family will likely be determined on academic success more so than athletic achievement, I intend to significantly ramp up my study habits and academic achievements because I have the potential and plan to succeed at my studies as well as football. I believe in my athletic abilities and intend to pursue them as far as they can take me and I am putting no cap or limit on what that might be.
Every day is a new day and a new start for each of us, and past performance, whether good or bad, does not necessarily dictate future success or failure. So I am completely optimistic about my future. I do not yet know what I will study or which field I will ultimately work in, but I have for a long time believed that It will involve helping others. As much as I love the fun of athletic competition and more so, success, the feelings that come with serving others is even more meaningful and long-lasting. Physical injuries, declining athletic skills due to age and wear and tear and the demands of daily living eventually push athletics to the side for most of us, but serving and ministering to others can be pursued for a life-time. That's why I feel that I will eventually work in the area of teaching, coaching, training, counseling or somehow serving others.
I am excited about going to college, playing football at a higher level and finding out more about who I am, what I can do with my talents and what I'll be doing for the next many years. All I need is the opportunity to show what I can do and then go do it! I am confident that I will succeed.
