My name is Josh Coyle and I am a Senior at West Holt High School in Atkinson, NE. I am 18 years old, 5’-11”, and 205 lbs. I am a letter winner in Football, Wrestling, Track, Band and One Act Plays. Along with athletics, I am an active volunteer in the community, involved as President of the local FFA chapter and class officer. I have a perfect 4.0 GPA and I am ranked number one in my class. I believe that in is important to be successful in both athletics and academics.
This past season, I averaged over 210 rushing yards per game with 3 TDs and over 12 tackles. Ranked #5 in the state, the West Holt Huskies have gained state wide attention for our aggressive play and hard running offense. In my Junior season I had two games over 300 yards and have had 8 TDs runs of over 50 yards. At the completion of my Junior season, I was honored with All-District First Team, All-Area First Team, All-Region First Team and All-State First Team selections. To prepare for my senior season, I attended several football camps including the North Dakota State University Elite Camp (Running Back MVP), West Holt Football Camp, Northwest Missouri State Football Camp, South Dakota State University Elite Junior & Senior Camp, South Dakota State University Team Camp (Running Back MVP) and several other skills camps. I believe that off season training will help separate me from other athletes. Also, this is the opportunity to meet new coaches, new friends, and develop a successful work ethic.
Along with football, I have been very successful in wrestling finishing as district champion the last three years. In 2013, I was the 182 lb State Champion. In both 2011 and 2012, I placed 4th at the State Tournament. USA Wrestling has ranked me as the 12th best wrestler in the nation at 182#s. I had several season honors including First-Team All Conference the last three years, as well as setting the school record in near fall points scored and most takedowns in a single season. I led the team in wins, team points, take downs, near falls, and tournament championships. I have also been very successful track and field. As a freshman, I was District champion and state entrant in the 100 & 400 yard dash. In my sophomore year, I was conference and district champion in the 100, 400 and Long Jump. My times include an 11.1 - 100 yard dash, 51.9 - 400 yard dash and 21’-9 ½” in the long jump. My Junior season continued the success as I was District Champion in the 100 and 200, as well as District Champion and State Medal winner in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. In Senior Legion Baseball I have been honored with an All-Star selection at both pitcher and catcher. I averaged 13 strikeouts per game and am batting just over .400. I set a career high of 21 out of 21 outs by strikeout versus Madison, NE. I lead the team in hitting percentage, stolen bases, and runs scored. I have two major goals.
My goal is to play college football for a program that has a strong tradition of athletic and academic success. In order to make this goal a reality, I am working extremely hard to develop my agility, explosiveness, and overall strength. I understand that nothing comes easy, and it takes dedication and hard work to outperform the competition.
While in college, I would like to study either medicine or engineering. Education opens many doors that may not otherwise be available and helps lead to future success. My parents have taught me that dedication to excellence is the key to success. Knowing this, I believe that I can put forth the effort needed to play football at the next level. I have the dedication and internal drive to overcome obstacles and achieve my dreams.
