Personal Statement

My name is Evan Landell and I graduated from Shelton High school in Shelton, Nebraska in 2007. After high school I accepted a full scholarship to Doane College in Crete, Nebraska where I was expected to be a starter as a freshman and help restore a program that was on a downward spiral. I was recruited as an athlete linemen to play either side of the ball. From what was seen through my senior year, Coach Matt Franzen wanted me to play center for the Tigers because I was limited to only playing one side of the ball during my senior season due to a torn hamstring suffered during the first game. Also, upon arival to Doane they only had two returning offensive linemen on the entire roster. As camp started I was on the first team offense as Center and was moved around frequently due to other injuries on the team. The first game came and we played the number 15 team in NAIA, Morningside and lost 73-0. During the game however I was unfortunate and was on the wrong end of a cut-block thrown by our own fullback. I broke my ankle and needed three surgeries through the year to get my ankle corrected. I recieved a medical redshirt and took a medical leave from school that first semester. The next fall I was still projected to have significant playing time and be a starter. I had some growing pains from the injury but by mid-season I felt even better than before the accident. My coaches however did not feel I was capable of the things I could do before I was injured. I was used as a rotation player on the offensive line and most games I played the three interior positions of Center, Left and Right guards. Me, my fellow teammates and even other coaches did not understand the logic to how my head coach and offensive line coach were utilizing me. By the end of the 2008 season I had made up my mind and I requested my release from the Doane College football team. My head coach was less than pleased but I did what was best for me. I transfered to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I am currently enrolled. I have spent the entire first semester training and going to class. There is an open tryout in January but I dont want my options to be limited to how well I perform on a single tryout. I know what I am capable of now and it is far beyond what I could do at Doane and even beyond what I thought my limitations were. I have not played a Varsity game of football for a year but athletically and mentally I have a much better grasp of the game. I am now 20 years old, 6'3 and 305 pounds, I can bench 535 pounds and rep 225 pounds 41 times, my squat suffered a little due to the injury but I can now max out at 630 pounds. My explosiveness has come a long way as well and I have a 30 inch vertical and a 40 yard dash time of 4.8 seconds (hand held) with a consistant time of 5.0 seconds or faster. I have been training ever since I decided to transfer from Doane and I know I have the abilities to compete at any level of college football. Be it NAIA, NCAA Division I (FBS), I (FCS), II, or III. I have been studying the game exstensively and have the passion to play the remainder of my eligibility. I played on both sides of the ball through four years of high school and on the offensive side of the ball through one full season at the colligate NAIA level of football. I know where my strengths are and I believe where ever it is I finish my career, it will be as a defensive player. I know I have great athleticism and I want to use those abilities to the fullest. I pick up on schemes and concepts very quickly and I have a top notch work ethic. Football is my passion and not playing this last year has made my life less than acceptable according to my standards. This is a little about me and who I am as an athlete, my contact info is on my profile and if any coach out there is wondering if what I say I am capable of is true then you can call me or email me. I am open to all calls from any size school, I know one thing and that is I want to play and help the team I am playing for win.
