Hello, my name is Ty Barberi and I am an aspiring college student-athlete. I hope that a college coach or recruiter reads this letter and realizes that they could be recruiting a ‘Hidden Gem.’ I am going into my Senior Year (Class of 2023) at Paul VI High School in Haddonfield, New Jersey. I’ve been playing football since the age of 7 and I love the sport.
My career hasn’t been without its ups and downs, though. I was named the team captain of a highly competitive youth football team, but I suffered a broken clavicle (right shoulder) at the beginning of the 8th-grade season. Although I was demoralized, I refused the give up and challenged myself through grueling hours of physical therapy and rehab. After 12 weeks, I was cleared to play in my team’s playoffs where I helped lead my team to an undefeated season and a Southern New Jersey Championship.
During my freshman at Rancocas Valley Regional High School (Mt. Holly, NJ), I was elected team captain again, yet as luck would have it, I broke my left clavicle at the start of the season. I once again had to go through rehab and physical therapy. I missed my freshman season, but I made up for it in the offseason in the weight room, where I excelled. By the following year, I was named the only Sophomore starter on a team loaded with upperclassmen. I worked my way into the starting lineup halfway through the season on a team that finished with a winning season in a very competitive conference.
I decided to transfer to Paul VI High School during my Junior year to push myself both physically and academically. I was a starter on both sides of the ball where I played wide receiver and safety for a team that placed second in the conference, finished with a 9-2 record, and went on to play in the nationally recognized, New Jersey Non-Public League state playoffs.
I’ve worked extremely hard to prepare for my senior year in the off-season. I put 30 lbs of muscle on my frame, gained 100 lbs on my bench press, and 200 lbs on my squat. I am currently a senior leader on my team, the starting inside linebacker and fullback/wideout. My jersey number is #22 and I plan to help lead my team to a conference championship and a state playoff this year.
I want to play football in college where I can contribute to the success of the program, lead by example, excel academically, give 110% at every game, and make my coaches and family proud.
