At conclusion of my Junior year and being on a team that has faced adversity I learned more about my role as a player and how I can positively impact my team. From day one of training camp I was a two way starter at RB, OLB and on all special teams. Some weeks I was needed more on defense other weeks to carry the ball. Naturally everyone wants to be the guy and get the ball as much as possible but my role was to be able to contribute where I was needed.
Because of injuries to both our Quarterbacks I was moved in the middle of the 3rd game of the season and instantly became the starting QB. Without ever practicing the position I was twice named conference player of the week and my teams 2016 Offensive MVP. QB is not my natural position and as a player who wants an opportunity to play college football it may not have been the best position to show my ability as a running back, OLB/Safety and special teams player but it was the role that my team needed me to fill. If anyone who knows me or has played with me was asked about my character and what makes me different from other recruits. I believe they would reply "Nicholas is a we not me player whose only goal is to win." I believe in leading by example and that includes hard work on and off the field. Team leadership does not start in June or July it is a year round commitment to making one another better.
As a potential candidate I believe I can add value to a roster at several positions as needed. As a two way starter this year I have played RB, OLB, QB, KR, PR and WR. I believe that this versatility shows my athleticism and my ability as an all around player who is capable of making plays at any position. I also take my academics very seriously and spend most of my time off the field preparing for my school work. I have many goals academically that include pursuing a career in Accounting and Finance and want to play for a school that has a strong curriculum in these areas of study. As important to me is being at a school that has a strong sense of community. I want my college experience to include all aspects of college life. In the classroom, on the field and a social life.
If you have any additional questions about me, the type of person I am on and off the field please contact my Head Coach Frank Edgerly at 216-280-7555
