Personal Statement

My name is Vincenzo Manuel DiCaterino and the first time I played football at age 9, I knew it would not be the last.  There are days that I ride past my high school football field and feel the excitement of getting back into uniform and performing my best.   Being at my best on and off the field is very important in all aspects of my life.  My family is the most valuable possession I own and without their love and support, I cannot imagine where I would be today.  My parents, brothers and sisters are my greatest support system and I make it my goal to make them proud every day. Two very special people in my life are not with me today but think about how much of an impact they had on me, in teaching me the values and morals I live by. They taught me respect, responsibility, determination, discipline and a good work ethic is most important in reaching my goals in life.
My goal is to earn a position on the roster for a D1 or D2 college football team and hopefully to continue onto professional football.  Not only is it my dream but I strive to make it my goal because I know I have what it takes to work hard, push myself, and become an important asset to a team. My team always comes before me and I will do whatever I have to do get the job done. I train in the off season as much I can and push myself to become stronger and better every time. In the classroom I know that it is just as important to perform at my best because a good education goes hand in hand with success.
As a 6’2” and 240 lb. athlete, I have trained to be a quarterback, linebacker and running back.  When not training for football, I also play AAU and high school basketball to keep in shape.  I work with two personal trainers to enhance my agility, speed and strength as well as learning healthy eating habits.  It has made a tremendous positive change for my mind and body.
I began playing Football at the Varsity level as a freshman in a new high school for both offense and defense.   It was the beginning of my personal growth and maturation as a young man and a new student to the school.  I had attended a public school all my life but I was accepted into a private school during the summer of my freshman year to begin my preparation for college.  The Albany Academy brought out my leadership skills and confidence by challenging me every day and allowing me to make decisions about my future. As the only starting freshman varsity linebacker, I was awarded the section’s 2nd team all-star and within the next year, as a sophomore linebacker, I was awarded 1st team all section linebacker. On and off the football field, I gave my peers and elders the respect they deserved because that is what I expect from them. As of this September 2014, I respectfully transferred back to my home town district to play football for Broadalbin- Perth high school.  The change was very sudden, but I believe that I have transitioned with great ease, confidence and warm welcoming.   This decision came from a very long thought out process and a reflection back to what I want for my future and what opportunities I create for myself.
I believe that taking chances to better myself only builds character and strength.  I look forward to the challenges that college football will throw at me and I would love the opportunity to show you I can work hard, push myself and become a leader and an important asset to your team and college.
