My name is Jack Vickers, and I am a student at Spencerport High School based in the village of Spencerport, New York. I am currently a Junior, and I have been a starter for the past two seasons on Varsity.
Entering my sophomore season, I was fortunate enough to earn a starting spot as a "role-player" at tight end, on what would in time be the first sectional finalist team in school history. Growing up in an organization that has forever utilized a double wing offense, I had played fullback since youth football up until my sophomore season. Being able to learn a new position, and to execute on top of that, is a personal accomplishment of mine. Defensively, I was not a full-time starter. I did not have an oppourtunity to play middle linebacker, as two seniors had been already starting. Although, I did receive playing time as I was needed, and was able to achieve the second most tackles in our third game at outside linebacker behind our senior All-State middle linebacker.
Throughout my Junior year, I'd consider myself to be even more fortunate. Offensively, I was the starting fullback. On the other hand, while still technically out of position on defense, I was a starting outside linebacker. I was lucky enough to have earned Section V Defensive Player of the Week, All-County Second Team, and All-Greater Rochester Honorable Mention for local linebackers. Gaining thirty pounds between my sophomore and junior seasons I believe is what allowed for this increase in personal success. Our team, however, lost in the first round of sectionals.
My goals for the remainder of my high school career and beyond is to maintain a reputation as a utility player; to play where I may be needed with my personal skillset. Academically, I am a High Honor Roll student with a 4.2 GPA, and have been inducted into the National Honor Society. I am also a baseball player.
