Personal Statement
You ever hear the saying... “it ain't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog?" That’s about me!!
My name is Ambrose Joseph Smith. I’m 5’11” 260lbs. My love for playing the game of football started in 7th grade at Senator Donovan Middle School. I also started playing lacrosse my freshman year of high school. I play lacrosse as a way of staying occupied during the offseason. I work on conditioning, footwork, and agility combined with weight lifting. During my freshman year of high school playing football I started every game full-time on both sides of the ball including dead snaps. Playing offensive tackle and defensive tackle. I was co-captain throughout my freshman season coming off a 5-2 record. At the beginning of my sophomore year I was the captain of the team, and continued to start on both sides of the ball. I got switched to offensive guard and stayed defensive tackle on defense. Halfway through my sophomore year, I was moved up to varsity and shared time at offensive guard. We finished our undefeated regular season with a record of 9-0. This was the best record in school history. We made it to the program’s first-ever Section III Championship game.
Each summer I have attended football camps to enhance my level of skill and to get myself on the radar of college recruiters. Staying conditioned and coachable is essential to me in addition to being in the weightroom. I’m a dedicated leader on and off the field making sure all my teammates are there and working to the best of their ability! It's a team effort to win games, and the benefits of off-season training is crucial.
Currently I'm maintaining a 3.3+ GPA. My assignments are my main priority. My objective for my Junior and Senior year is to play every down like it's my last and be the best guy I can be on and off the field. I know I have the dedication, drive, discipline, and commitment to be a great addition to any university. As an undersized lineman I am fully aware that I will need to be and already am much better than my peers, much stronger, much faster, much smarter, and I have no fear lining up against linemen who have 50-100 pounds on me and tossing them.
