Personal Statement

ATTENTION COACHES!!  2011 SENIOR HIGHLIGHTS ARE ON THE SCHEDULES /PRESS LINKS TAB ABOVE.

My name is Austin Fleming; I'm a senior at West Stokes High School. I'm currently 6'4", 215 lbs and run the forty yard dash in a 4.69. I am a four year varsity football starter as quarterback. I was moved up permanently, my freshman year, to the varsity football team where I took over the starting quarterback position and gained the respect of my offensive teammates and stepped in the last 5 games and helped our team to our first playoff win in school history. I was voted All-Conference quarterback and the All-County team as a sophomore, Junior and Senior in 2009, 2010 and 2011. I was also nominated for the All-Regional team as a sophomore and was voted All-Regional Honorable Mention in 2010 and was voted 1st team all Region QB as a senior.  I was very humbled by receiving the All State QB for the 2A Division by NCPrep.  Our team competed and won the 2AA NC State Championship that was played at Carter Finley Stadium in Raliegh, NC on December 3rd, 2011 to end my senior year at West Stokes High School.   I currently hold the school record for most passing & rushing  yards, passing & rushing attempts, passing completions and passing & rushing touchdown in a season and a career. I also hold the best punting yards average per kick. Since I was 5 years old I have played and loved this great game of football. I have also been considered a leader on and off the athletic field, because of my work ethics. I am always the first on the field and the last one off. I'm open to insight, criticism and coaching from the experience of the older players and I really like helping the younger guys to help get them prepared. I am a member of the High School varsity basketball team where I was again moved up to the Varsity team half way through my freshman year and played quality minutes as a freshman. During my sophomore year on the Varsity basketball team I was a starter and was the second leading scorer on the team and averaged 13.1 points per game as a Soph. As a Jr. I was the leading scorer on the Varsity team averaging 14.7 points per game and was voted as a all-tournament team member and was 1st team All- Conference. I was also voted as the Runner up for Conference MVP and All Northwest NC Region 1st team as a Junior. I am currently a member of a USSSA 16U basketball team and have been participating for that team for 4 years to date. I will be participating, this summer, with the 17U North Carolina Spartans AAU Basketball team. I have always thrived on the competition and the challenge of playing against older peers and have been asked to move up in age brackets in both football and basketball throughout my life. I have been around football all my life, my father graduated from Wake Forest University and lettered two years as an offensive tackle on the football team. He has coached little league football in this community for 21 years and I have helped with the younger players of his football organization for the past four years. My teammates have always looked up to me, even as a younger player, to be a good role model win or lose and with the Lord's guiding grace I will always give my all and do my very best both on the field, in the classroom and in my community. I am a member of the National Junior Honor Society and currently have a 3.3 grade point average. I am a member of the Olive Grove Baptist Church in Pinnacle, NC. I come from a strong family base and my parents are very supportive and demanding of both my younger brother and I. My parents are at every event cheering us on. We are a middle income family and both my parents work. I know that my parents will also have to help pay for my brother's education as well. At this point in my life I'm not able to do much for my family but to excel in academics and athletics getting college assistance would be a fantastic way of showing them how much they helped me succeed and that their persistence and sometimes tough love really was worth the effort. I truly will work and do my very best; one of my biggest fears is letting my parents down after all they have done for me. My dream is to play college football and my goal is gain a college degree while doing something that I have always been a part of and loved.
