I was introduced to football by playing flag football at the local YMCA at an early age. I also played basketball and enjoyed it; but when I began playing tackle at the age of 10, I knew that was what I wanted to do. I don’t just like football. Football is my life and not just part of it. My dad showed me video of some of the great running backs such as Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson, and Marshawn Lynch. I’ve watched film of corners such as Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, and Deion Sanders. I watch Deion’s videos, follow him on social media and truly listen to what he has to say. I look at him as one of the greatest if not the greatest. But as much as I look up to him and others, I don’t want to be the next Deion, Ed, or Barry. I want to be the first Elijah Elliott. I want kids to look up to me and want to be the “next” Elijah. I aspire to be the best at my position regardless of what position. I’m motivated by exceeding the expectations of those that believe that I can be great. I’m motivated by those that doubt how great I can be. I feel playing football is my purpose. I don’t want to be remembered as being average but the best to play the game. While my aspirations are great, staying humble, playing fair, and being loyal will continue to keep grounded. I understand I may have natural talent but someone may work harder and end up being better. I intend to use my natural talent, work hard, and grind to become something great and be remembered as that greatest to ever do it.
