After my first couple years of high school football, I felt like giving up because I felt there was no point in working for a position I would never get. However, with my family's help and an amazing miracle, I was able to change my school and team. I got my chance and ran away with it.
I have many experiences and people that have carved me into the person I am today. My parents have always been there for me. My mom taught me the definition of working hard to achieve my goals. She helped me to understand I am the one who chooses my path and others can help and support me along the way, but I need to put in the work to achieve my goals. I watched her get her master's degree in nursing and become a nurse practitioner while working a fulltime job and caring for her family. She made multiple sacrifices and never gave up on herself. She graduated with a 4.0 and finally achieved her lifelong dream. My father has taught me all about football and the importance of being a team member. He played football in high school as well. He spent time teaching me skills and has always supported me in my endeavor. I became interested in my amazing sport when my father was watching a Florida vs. Florida State game. After that I was hooked and knew that I wanted to go to college and play football. I have learned that hard work is the key to success in life, and there is no way around it. I have also learned leadership skills, teamwork, and sacrifice is needed to be successful in anything you want to do in life.
I have several goals that I want to achieve as I pursue my dream of playing football professionally. I want to have the education necessary to have a successful career outside of football as well. My academic goals are to be from a 3.0 to a 3.5 through high school and college. I realize the importance of education and would like to pursue a degree in education or ministry. I want to play college football and be an integral part of the team. I believe in teamwork. I think as a member of a team, I can work to perfect my skills as well as help others to perfect theirs. I have never yet had the chance to lead a team as a captain, but I know if I ever have that chance, playing football or not, I will try everything in my power to give people an easier path to success.
I have had to overcome many obstacles in the pursuit of my goals. I have also had many people who have doubted my ability to achieve my goals. I worked to lose 50 pounds of fat and regain it as muscle. I also shaved off many seconds on my 40-yard dash. I am smaller than other offensive lineman, but I have consistently shown that I am the right man for the job.
I possess many unique characteristics and skills. I work as hard if not harder than anyone else, doing 3 to 5 workouts a day. I have no skill better than the other, because I try to work on everything equally, such as speed, agility, strength, catching, attacking, and blocking. I do know that I do not weigh as much as a regular defensive end or tight end, but I continue to learn and perfect my abilities.
I admit there are times when I doubt myself, but football is integral to who I am as a person. I enjoy being part of a team and working hard to be the best at my craft. Given the chance, I will not disappoint.
