As a multi-sport athlete (football, power lifting, and shot put), I have learned a lot – not just about the sports, but about myself. Each sport I've played has taught me lessons that helped me both on and off the field.
I learned that football is a brotherhood in which every player needs to do his job in order for the team to be successful. However, power lifting and shot put are ‘individual’ team sports in which athletes compete with and against teammates at the same time. Both types of sports have taught me to embrace and respect those around me because each person brings specific strengths to the team. I feel this is invaluable and applicable to all aspects of life, not just on the field.
I am a team leader and try to lead by example. I strive to be a dynamic player and a positive influence on my teammates. Although football is extremely mentally and physically challenging, I have a strong physical presence, mental perseverance, and a high football IQ that I work on strengthening year-round by participating in extra-curricular camps, playing on select teams, and working hard in the weight room. As a result, I have acquired many athletic accolades, including being named defensive player of the year (2022), earning a spot in the 1,700-lbs club (bench, squat, incline, deadlift, and power clean, 2023), setting new 6A school district records (shot put and discus, 2023), being selected to attend the FBU Top Gun showcase (2023), and earning a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ranking as a long snapper from Chris Rubio (2024).
In the classroom, I study hard and use my time wisely to maintain an overall ‘A’ average. I want to attend a college/university where I can maintain a healthy balance between academics and competitive sports so I will consider all opportunities in pursuit of finding the right match.
