Derek Martin '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Derek Martin, Running Back, St. Thomas High Eagles, Houston, TX.  I am 5'8" 172 lbs and have good hands out of the backfield.   I was a 3 year starter and earned All-District and All-State honors each year.  I was recently selected by my coaches as the Offensive Player of the Year and rated and evaluated by ESPN Recruiting Nation as a 2 STAR Running Back for the 2012 Class.  I am looking for an opportunity to contribute to a solid football program that competes for championships and values my desire to attain a great education to help prepare me for my future career.  On a personal note I was born in Oklahoma but at age 2 my family moved and I grew up in the Charlotte, North Carolina and lived a couple of years in Lexington, South Carolina.  We lived out East for 10 years total before moving South to Louisiana.  After Hurricane Rita we moved again at the start of 7th Grade to the Houston, Texas area (League City) where we live now.  My preference is a generally warm climate with a nice campus location but I'll keep all options open.  I applied and was accepted into St. Thomas, a well-known private and highly selective college prep school in Houston.  Honestly, the academics has been an extremely tough challenge for me coming out of a very good public school district (CCISD) but I've showed up everyday (4 years perfect attendance) and I've never quit, improved each year and know that I'm better prepared for college.  I would greatly appreciate any opportunity to continue playing this great game at the college level, preferably at Running Back, but I am open to play where I can best contribute to win.
