Personal Statement
Howdy, I’m Santiago Bohlmann, most of my friends and family call me Santi. I’m a junior at Obra D. Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. I was born in the capital city of Caracas, Venezuela but lived in Maracaibo until 9 years old. I was born with Dyslexia and a speech impediment that created a significant struggle with my communication skills and I was unable to communicate with others like normal.
I moved over to the United States in January 2010, but first we moved in with family in the tiny town of Schulenburg, Texas in the summer of 2009. I initially became interested in football during Junior High, due to my natural large size and my need to physically express myself. It proved to be a good first season, even after the coaching staff had put me on C team. Looking back I am glad they did and give me my 7th grade year to learn the game.
Once 8th grade year came around I had been moved up to A team and we even went 6-3, including a district game. The entire season taught showed me that I was stronger than I thought, both physically and mentally. Football has taught me to persevere through the losses, the determination to pick myself up when things are down, and the tenacity to get my teammates to do the right thing and work hard right along with me. I’m a reliable student-athlete on the football field and off. In the classroom, I strive to keep my academics in line with a A-B average in Junior High and a 3.8 in High school. Ultimately, my goals are to have a 4.0 GPA or higher, and accomplish a 1300 on the SAT. In college I would like to major in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
One of my proudest accomplishments so far is my status as a Eagle Scout in the Boy Scout of America, it was a huge honor for me to accept the award. This last season I am very proud of my team in which we went from a 0-9 record to 10-3 in one year losing in the 3rd round of the playoffs. I am a coachable, strong individual both physically and intellectually. I’m very proud of my heritage as part European and Latino, my travel experiences and my abilities to speak both English and Spanish.
