My name is Cutter Smith. As the oldest of three boys and a multi-sport athlete, I am confident in my ability to work with others, be a good teammate, and overcome adversity. Further - and likely because of my aforementioned experiences - I have a pretty good grasp on who I want to be when I ¨grow up.¨ As far as where I see myself in five years, though, that picture is not as clear. Admittedly, I am very nervous about the future - it´s weird to think about getting older - but one thing I know for certain is that my ultimate goal is to attend a university that will not only challenge me academically but also provide me with the tools necessary to be successful in life, while allowing me to continue playing the sport I love most; football.
Other recruits might have better reasons for wanting to play at the next level, but my rationale is pretty simple: football is fun. Every time I step onto the field I become something bigger than myself - one piece of a machine working together toward common goals. For four whole quarters, I don´t have to do anything but play a game - focus on doing a job - and celebrate my team. Then, when the game is over - and the fun is through - I am able to take what I have learned on the field and apply that to real life. For instance, as someone who plays on the line, I have learned that perfection doesn't always equal greatness, and greatness doesn't always get you a pat on the back (or an awesome highlight reel); which is pretty much the way life works.
In short, I am a good student and a coachable athlete with a heart for the game. I will be a good fit for any program that is willing to have me in the future.
