Personal Statement
My name is Tom Wilkie, and it is very simple. Football is and has been very influential in my life and still is to this day. I wake up in the mornings dreaming about this game. If it wasn't for the game, I wouldn't know what to do with my time. I go to school, compete in the seasonal sport, practice football after the seasonal sport, work, eat and then sleep. That's my day, in almost that order. I can't begin to fathom how important and influential this game I've always dreamed of being able to play in the NFL and just being able to play the sport I grew up dreaming of playing and when you step onto the field, the air is so crisp, it takes my breath away every time. All my life I have worked extremely hard to get an opportunity to purse my dream. If I never get the chance to play at the next level then I will play until I can't play anymore due to age or injuries. I've had people ask me if I was hurt and I always responded to them with this: The only way that I'd ever come off the field was if I had broken bones or I had to be heart flighted off the field and neither of them have ever happened and they always laughed like I'm crazy, but hey maybe I am and what sport to more crazy about than football.
As far as a team player goes, I consider myself a great team player because all through my life I have competed with guys and girls that were older than myself in every sport. With those experiences even if i wasn't playing I always cheered and pushed my teammates. My freshman year I was awarded with the one and only Hit of the year award. My sophomore year I was awarded with overall best linemen, along with 2nd team all opponent defensive end. I became the football captain my junior year along side of two very respected seniors. After that I realized my true potential. Over the past two years I have been considered one of the greatest athletes to ever walk the halls of Davenport High School, right behind my father and my brother. I was chosen for 1st team all opponent running back and linebacker along with MVP of my team for the second year in a row. Our all opponent selections are voted on by coaching staffs in our league not by the players. Not only have I tried to do my best in sports, but also in school as far as academics. I know I don't have the best overall GPA(grade point average), but I have been on the honor roll my freshman and sophomore year and have pulled an accumlative GPA of 3.0.
I have been raised with good morals and tried to been a good role model to younger kids and my friends. I absolutely despise and hate chewing, drinking, drugs and smoking. I have never been ineligible for any reason whatsoever during my high school athletic career.
I go to Davenport High School, we're a small 2B school that doesn't get much exposure. We are not greatly known for anything in particular. I love Davenport High School and the small town I live in is amazing in so many ways. Being born an raised in Davenport has benefited me in so many ways but the most important is my work ethic. Living in Davenport you never get breaks, your constantly doing something productive. I work out on my uncles farm in the summers and along side of mowing lawns, and driving wheat truck for a family friend and when something has to get done, it doesn't matter how tired or worn out I am because it has to get done and I still do it and that is part of the mental work ethic I was raised with.
I want to compete at the highest level of athletics that I could possibly attain. I would love to go to a college that has a decent Diesel Mechanic program that can help me start a career. It doesn't really matter where the school would be located, whether it be in a dry or humid climate, mountain surrounded area or not. I am open to going nation wide to any college. I'm very independant, I'm the type of person that goes to a camp and my parents don't hear from me until I get home.
