Personal Statement

My name is Joel Isenberger. I am 6'4" and weigh 285 lbs. I am the starting right guard for the Monona Grove High School (MGHS) varsity football team. MGHS is located in Monona, WI. MGHS is a division two school that competes in the Badger South Conference. I bench press 310lbs and I also squat 460lbs. My vertical leap was last measured at 29" and my last recorded 40 yard dash time was clocked at 5.2. I have played football since fourth grade and have started every year while competing at the high school. As a sophomore, I was selected by the coaching staff to be a team captain for the MGHS JV football team. Outside of football, I am actively involved in many community activities including; founding member and an active officer of Monona Grove's Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Vice-President of Leadership Development in Monona Grove DECA. An accomplishment that I take great pride in is placing fifth at the 2009 State DECA competition, which also qualified me to compete at the 2010 International Career Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. I have also been selected to represent MGHS in a Diversity Development Panel and also the WIAA Sportsmanship Summit. I recently traveled to Peru partnering with Kids Alive International and Door Creek Church serving orphaned children. All of these activities and experiences have molded me into an exceptional team leader and an incredibly driven athlete. An example of the commitment that I can offer your program would be supported by the dedication to MGHS summer conditioning and weightlifting for the last two years. Added together, I have missed seven days of summer lifting and conditioning, which began at 8am every day. The days missed were because of family obligations. My strong work ethic is supported by my academic excellence. Specifically, schools that I would prefer to attend are larger in size and are located in suburban and urban areas, although rural or smaller sized schools will always be considered. Division 1A-NAIA schools will all be considered heavily. The academics that a school has to offer and the quality of its majors will also be a significant factor in my decision making process. I hope to complete a dual major in entrepreneurship/small business management and marketing management. My athletic goals for my future are as follows: I hope to start at a position on the offensive line by the time I am a sophomore or a redshirt freshman; I hope to be elected or chosen as a team captain; I hope to receive all-conference honors at the collegiate level; I also hope to receive all-American honors if my circumstances allow for it. My dad always told me to shoot for the stars and that I can be whatever I want to be, so that is how I look at my collegiate football career. The sky is the limit for me and for whatever team wants my skills and leadership. "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." That is the motto that I live by.
