Throughout my schooling I have maintained a superior GPA and have always excelled in the classroom. This last year in football I was awarded the Scholar-Athlete award from the State of Wyoming. I also am a four-year letterman in football and a three-year letterman in basketball. My best classes have always been math and science and I have taken the highest courses available in both subjects, Calculus in math and Honors Physics. Teachers have had high expectations for me, but not as high as I keep for myself. I always put forth my best effort in all I do and never quit.
An example of my perseverance would be the progression of my basketball career. When I first started playing I never really had a high interest in basketball and therefore was never very good. I ended up seeing how well my friends were doing and it made me have a burning desire to excel in basketball. To do this, I spent countless hours in the gym working on various basketball related skills. My senior year I was a varsity starter and a team captain for the Big Piney High School basketball team. I continued to play and work hard in order to achieve my goal of being a better basketball player.
Another example of my persistence and character would be the countless summers I spent with my grandparents working cattle. One day we had some trouble. We started to gather up all the cattle at five in the morning and it was a fairly smooth move until the cows decided they didn’t want to go to the new pasture we were taking them. The reason for this was that the cows were used to stopping in a pasture closer and they didn’t want to go further than they were used to. We ended up being out past dark, which the sun set around nine or so that particular night, until we finally managed to have all the cattle in the right pasture.
