Last kid on the bench! That was me when I first made the team on our fourth grade school team. My parents were first generation immigrants so they had no idea about youth competitive sports. By the time the pandemic was done, we had lost our entire 6th grade of basketball but I took it as an opportunity to level-up my skill set. By the time we returned in the 7th grade I was a starter on our middle school JV team (7th & 8th grade) and a starter on our AAU D2 club. Basketball for me has always been about how every practice is an opportunity to get better. It helped me meet and become close to lifelong friends and mentors. These are people who I’m still extremely close with and still help me get better all the time, at basketball and as a person. My freshman year in HS I played JV and was the only player that came from outside the school system. Another challenge and a chance to meet new teammates and learn from new coaches. I’m now an integral part of the team going into my sophomore year.
Academics have always been a priority for me and as I look forward to my basketball career, I want to be able to pursue both at a high level. While I’m still a freshman and my experiences will continue to change my story, I look forward to contributing to my school and leave it a better place. I believe I will be a key member in any successful program and an even better member of the community.
