Arturo Varela '19 Recruiting Profile

I've been on Honor Roll my whole academic career, and have maintained a GPA of 3.8 or higher in high school so far. I have been playing basketball since the 5th grade. I started out playing just for fun but each day I played I fell more and more in love with basketball until I realized I couldn’t live without it. Ever since the seventh grade I knew I wanted to be a collegiate player and I realized at a young age that this wouldn’t be easy and only become possible with a great passion and deep commitment to myself for this game.

I want to play college ball because the game has shaped me into the person I am and it has given so much to me. It has kept me focused on my goals and aspirations. I’m a very competitive player and I hate losing but I love learning what I need to get better at in order to be the best player I can be.  College along with basketball will allow me to become the best version of myself, on the court and off.

I am a team player and I strive to be the best competitor in the gym at all times. I feel my greatest strength is being able to listen and produce what a coach asks of me. I have a high basketball IQ because I know how to use my strengths and weaknesses to my advantage, and I’m a consistent mid-range and free throw shooter. My main weakness now is my ball handling, but its improving every day from the ball handling drills I do.

My main goal is to be a successful student athlete and to have a great relationship with my friends and family but most important give all the glory to God. I’m open to all options with very little restriction in location. I just want to play.
