Personal Statement

Hello coach, my name is John Olsen and I am a senior (Class of 2019) at Lassiter High School in Marietta, Georgia. I have played basketball since I was 10 years old, and I was also a year round swimmer. I gave up swimming two years ago to focus on basketball. I like being a part of a team and I did not get that experience when I swam.

I am proud of my skills on the court.  I have attended college elite camps where and have been told many times that I have great hustle and I am coachable.

I look forward to playing basketball in college. I know it is a lot of work and travel, but I know it is a great experience. My sister, Emilee, plays center at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, and she tells me that it is a great experience. I am not sure where I wish to go to college or where my skills will fit, all I know is that I wish to play. Outside of basketball, I enjoy being outdoors (I became and Eagle Scout last year) and I keep busy at school with class activities.  I am a class representative in Student Council and a member of Fellowship Christian Athletes.

Training

  • Weight Training - Lassiter High School - Daily class
  • 2 years
  • As part of my class schedule, I am taking a daily weight training class, geared to athletes who play a sport in high school. I am the only varsity basketball playing taking this class to get stronger on the court. Coach works on all aspects of strength and muscle conditioning, geared to my sport. He has even taught me yoga for the benefits of strength and flexibility.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
