Derek Bourke '11 Recruiting Profile

My name is Derek Bourke, a Senior at Nokomis High school, I'm 6'2" and 190Ibs with average speed but I play like a 6'5" 205Ibs player. Although I have primarily played as a forward my whole career and feel at home in the paint, I have the athleticism and versitility to adapt to a shooting gaurd position. In the first third of my Sophmore year I started over a 6'3" Senior and I have started ever since. That year I was awarded with an All Tournament Team trophy in our Litchfield tournament. Now as a Junior I'm averaging 16 points and 9 rebounds in 16 games. Thus far my team has played in a Thanksgiving Tounament in the St. Louis region we were the only Class 1A school there and the other teams were Classes 2-3A. We came out of that Tounament 2-2, and I was named to that All Tourament Team. We were the champions in the Morrisonville Mohawk Classic where I was named to the All Tournament Team and MVP. In the Litchfield Invitational Tournament we got 3rd place out of 10 teams, I scored 91 points in 5 games and was named to the All Tournament Team for the second year in a row. We were Regional Champs and finished 2nd in Sectional Championship game in double overtime. I finished that game with a career high 31 points and 14 rebounds. When I'm on the court, all that is in my head is basketball. Every game that I play in I give 110%, and I'm a highly competitive athlete. When I'm on the court I'm a leader and I try to keep my team's intensity up. I can take constructive criticism well and I'm always looking for ways to improve my game. When it comes to practice I'm the one that never gives up and always trying to help my teammates stay focused, that is part of my role as team captian. It has always been my goal to compete at next level and I look forward to play in college were my goals are bound to change. My choice of schools would be in the Mid-West Region ;however, I could be flexible if given the opportunity. I will look at any and all schools that meet MY academic and athletic goals. My athletic goals are to have a chance to play as a freshman, chance to play at the highest competition level I can, and to help that team out as much as possible while completing my degree.
