Hello, my name is Jaylen Jennings. I am currently a Junior (C/O 2019) at Avon High School, in Indiana. I would like to further my dream of one day becoming a professional athlete by playing basketball at the collegiate level. I have previously played varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels of basketball at Avon. I shared minutes on both varsity and junior varsity teams, last season as an underclassman (sophomore). I have also competed in the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) circuit since the 7th grade.
As a recruit, I am different than any other player because of my work ethic. I am a person who prides myself on outworking everyone else to be the best that I can be. I am the athlete who is the first and last person in and out of the gym, who is always on time and never misses practices, and who works hard on both ends of the court. As a student, I'm someone who takes my grades very seriously. I currently have a 3.7 GPA and have always kept a GPA of 3.6 or higher throughout High School. Currently I am taking several AP and dual college credit courses to obtain a Core 40 High School diploma with Academic Honors. I will be taking the SAT for the first time in March of 2018. My character is different than others because I am someone who tends to stay out of trouble and mostly focus on bettering myself. Though I am not selfish, I don't get caught up in what others are doing unless it applies to me.
I differ from most athletes on the court due to my size, athleticism, and basketball IQ. I'm current a 6'6" wing with a 36" vertical for my High School team and I don't think I've stopped growing, yet. Though I have a skinny frame, I am very long and I use this to my benefit by rebounding, blocking/altering shots, and finishing strong in the paint. A few more of strengths would be running the floor for layups and dunks, stretching the floor from both mid and 3 point range, and my ball handling ability for my size. From a basketball IQ standpoint, I am someone who can move the basketball to all of my teammates and play the game in both the full and half court with a great eye for what is going on. I am not a point guard but , I am good at finding open teammates when I have the ball and setting solid screens to get others open.
