Personal Statement

My name is Montgomery Drew Holland and I like to think I could be a great asset to any structured team. I fit best around coaches who allow me to be free in how I'm wired. I am more analytical and engineered in the various approaches to the game but also have a strong competitiveness regarding the sport. I have the resilience to overcome many obstacles, as I have had many trials in my few years of living as it relates to basketball. I have learned that nothing comes easy but it surely is worth it when you add a little bit of hard work and grit. My future is set on a business career, using my talents perhaps on an international level since I'm also fluent in French. I love the game of basketball and I continue to find new reasons as I consistently grow and surround myself with others that align with the goals that I  have planned for myself in the years ahead.

  • Camp/Event
  • Prep Hoops Spring Exposure Session
  • 3/17/24 to 3/17/24
  • Entering the basketball spring exposure session camp brought excitement and nerves, mainly because I hadn't yet secured a spot with any team. However, rather than letting anxiety overwhelm me, I channeled it into a drive to showcase my abilities. Focusing on refining my defensive techniques and emphasizing my team-oriented approach, I aimed to prove my value on the court. This period of uncertainty motivated me to work diligently on my skills, knowing that diligent practice would ensure my readiness when the opportunity to play finally arose. As the saying goes, I'm spending this time sharpening the axe so that my skills will be razor-sharp when the moment arrives.
  • Camp/Event
  • Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo Session 1
  • 9/24/23 to 9/24/23
  • My basketball experience was genuinely exhilarating as it allowed me to display my talent and bolster my confidence on the court. Competing locally, I was aware that I might face formidable opponents, some of whom I could meet during my upcoming season. This awareness fueled my determination and focus. To my delight, my hard work paid off, and I found myself on the coveted top performance list for the day. Of the many skilled players in attendance, only 20 were selected, making this accomplishment gratifying. It was a day that affirmed my belief in my abilities and motivated me to aim even higher in my basketball journey. I averaged over 15 ppg, with multiple blocks, assists, and rebounds.
  • Camp/Event
  • Prep Hoops Top Ohio 250 Expo
  • 9/16/23 to 9/16/23
  • What truly set this basketball camp apart from the rest was its innovative approach to coaching. Each round of play brought a fresh face to guide us on the court, and adapting swiftly to their unique coaching styles became the name of the game. It was a crash course in the art of listening and being adaptable, where flexibility wasn't just a luxury but a necessity. To succeed, I had to willingly set aside my own preconceived notions and ideas, embracing the wisdom each coach brought. This dynamic experience not only honed my basketball skills but also taught me valuable life lessons about collaboration, open-mindedness, and the power of adaptability.
  • Camp/Event
  • Indiana State Elite Camp
  • 8/26/23 to 8/26/23
  • The Indiana State basketball camp offered a comprehensive experience beyond honing basketball skills. Emphasizing the importance of balance and well-rounded players, the camp underscored the significance of good character as a foundation for success on and off the court. The coaching staff's commitment to identifying players who would be an excellent fit for the team was evident, reflecting their focus on consistency and a harmonious team dynamic.
  • Camp/Event
  • Youngstown State University Elite Camp
  • 7/29/23 to 7/30/23
  • Attending the YSU basketball camp offered a multifaceted experience beyond skill improvement. I gained valuable insight into becoming a more well-rounded player, learning the essence of sportsmanship, and fostering unity both on and off the court. The camp placed a strong emphasis on representing the university with integrity beyond the campus, while the personalized coaching from Coach Calhoun, a driving force behind The Horizon League Conference Champions, ensured one-on-one guidance throughout the 2-day camp toward more holistic player development.
  • Camp/Event
  • City shoot out
  • 4/24/22 to 4/24/22
  • Immersed in a focused environment, the basketball camp centered around elevating my shooting prowess. The camp provided an intensive experience tailored to honing my shooting technique through targeted drills, expert guidance, and personalized feedback. From mastering proper form to refining my shot selection, the camp was a dedicated platform for enhancing my basketball shooting ability to new heights.
  • Camp/Event
  • EXACT SPORTS Camp
  • 7/10/21 to 7/11/21
  • The basketball camp I attended was an exceptional experience that provided valuable one-on-one evaluations throughout a two-day session. What set this camp apart was the availability of video recordings to assess my performance, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement—during the personalized evaluations, coaches, and trainers closely observed my skills and gameplay, offering constructive feedback and tailored guidance to enhance my basketball abilities. The video recordings allowed me to witness my progress and identify specific areas where I needed to grow. This unique feature made the camp highly educational and incredibly motivating, as I could clearly see how my dedication and hard work were translating into tangible improvements on the court. Overall, this basketball camp proved to be an invaluable opportunity for skill development and self-assessment.
  • Camp/Event
  • Shooting Guard College
  • 7/09/18 to 7/14/18
  • The 3-day basketball camp I attended proved to be a transformative experience, particularly for my desired high school shooting guard role. I was able to focus on cultivating floor awareness and refining my skills; the camp pushed me out of my comfort zone. As a naturally calculated player, I initially grappled with the camp's fast-paced drills and emphasis on quick decision-making. However, through perseverance and dedicated practice, I gradually adapted my playing style, learning to make split-second choices while maintaining my precision. This journey improved my on-court performance and showcased my ability to overcome challenges and evolve as a more versatile and confident player.
