Legacy by Baruch Avendaño-Fanghänel
Legacy can mean very different things, for example: look at Adolf Hitler’s legacy and look at Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy, it can represent many different things within itself, Adolf Hitler forced the world to change and Mahatma Gandhi inspired it.
I could say I want my legacy to be “Most academically spectacular person this program has ever produced” but that is not going to be me because that is not who I am, being completely honest, basketball saved me when I was broken and alone, basketball gave me purpose which is to be drafted into the NBA and become the greatest shooter of all time. Remember: legacy is a reflection of your person and of who you really are.
But then I come to think: most people who have world changing legacies are always going to be hidden behind it?
For example: Who invented nails? (not known), Who invented doors? (not known), Who invented arrows? (not known).
There are so many simple things in life that help us with our productivity and we do not even know who created them, so that is why I say is it better to be forgotten? or is it better to be remembered?
I have my purpose very clear in my life and I do not plan on giving up until I reach it, purpose is life and life always comes with purpose even if it’s insignificant.
I do not want to lie, most of my academic success I owe it to my mother, because her legacy inspired me to turn in my homework or study for another test, but that wasn’t until another man’s legacy inspired me.
The first time I saw a Marvel movie I was very little and I loved all the heroes and action. When I grew older and I started looking at those movies again, I started saying to myself: is that possible? Imagine if the clean energy Tony Stark invented could be brought up into our world, imagine how many lives it could change, how many lives it could save, that ideal is my motor for being persistent in school.
So finally I answer to the given question: I want my legacy to be “dutiful son, loyal friend, kind person” but I also want to be “the reason for any girl and boy to never give up on their dreams even if they are impossible” because I will prove that there is no impossible. I will finish my education studying electrical and mechanical engineering! I will redefine the impossible! I will make it to the NBA! I will change the world!
I will achieve my purpose with no excuses and no escape. Let's get to work!
