When I was in third grade, my dad set up basketball hoop in the back of his warehouse. The day he set it up, I shot for over 6 hours straight. My dad told me a story about how Larry Bird shot 1,000 shots every day, so I made a goal to do the same. In 7th grade, I won the Northwestern Camp free throw contest by making 96 out of 100. In 8th grade, I passed the 1,000,000 shot mark. I have a goal of shooting 180,000 shots this fall before the season starts and have shot 42,000 in the last four weeks.
Goals are a big part of my life. I am self-driven. My goals aren’t just basketball though. Two years ago I wanted to learn how to solve the Rubik's cube. After watching YouTube videos and a lot of practice, I can solve multiple types of cubes and can solve the Rubik's cube in under 30 seconds. About a year ago, I decided to learn how to play the piano (using internet videos). I can now play songs like the theme to Pirates of the Caribbean. I also have academic goals (getting a 4.0 and a 30 ACT score) which I am very close to achieving.
I broke my left hand during my freshman season. During that time I played ten games, only missing one game and no practices. Last year during the school season, I dislocated my shooting hand with eight games to go. Again, I did not miss any practice or any games (although, my shooting percentage did drop quite a bit). These obstacles were discouraging, but I think they create toughness that can help me in college.
I would love to play basketball at a college that has a good engineering program. I have been playing club ball for ten years. I have a high basketball IQ and strong fundamentals. I generally play PG in club ball and SG in school ball. I believe I would be a good fit for the right college program.
