My name is Marcus Lang, I am a senior at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin Iowa. I currently run hurdles and sprints. I am an all around athlete my entire life. In high school I have not only run track, but also played varsity football, soccer, and basketball.
Over the last year I have overcome many medical hurdles to get where I am today. Freshman year of school was when covid shut things down. My school opened for only half days during my sophomore year. This means we only attended school for the afternoons. Going into junior year was the first "normal" year. I was unable to stay awake and focus like I remember being able to do before covid my freshman year. Through many appointments, doctors, and tests we got answers. Initially getting medication for anxiety was helpful, but I was still unable to stay awake unless physically active. It was then discovered that I have severe obstructive sleep apnea, mild PVC's unless active, ADHD, and possible narcolepsy. My junior year grades were bad because I literally could not stay awake. Without treatment, my body believed it needed 21 hours of sleep every day. Now being on treatment, I have gone from barely passing to now getting all A's and B's in 2nd semester of my senior year. I am taking on 4 extra courses as well to graduate on time without summer school.
I would like to go to college to study kinesiology and run track. It doesn’t matter what level of college I just wanna do the sport I love. I am willing to learn new things and take any criticism to get me better. I’m really easy to work with and I go 100% no matter what.
