Personal Statement
I remember watching replays of the ‘86 Celtics with my dad when I was really young. Bird’s play was like magic, and it sparked a passion in me for the game. My dad was my first coach and taught me not just the basics, but also how to be both a team player and a leader. I never quit, am very coachable, and work hard outside practice to build on the feedback that my AAU coaches give me.
A little about me - I'm a rising high-school Freshman. Since 1st grade, I have played the positions of small forward, center, wing, and point guard, and I’ve succeeded in each - though I’m usually a small forward for my shooting and first step, or center because I’m tall. I’m able to analyze the court at speed, and always know where my teammates and I will be strongest against our opponents. It's very important to me to play my hardest on both sides of the court and for the entirety of the game. My TAP assessment is a Musketeer, which is team-oriented.
My mental toughness is another one of my positive attributes. Even NFL players such as Tom Brady have been told that they suck, and as seen in the link below, they ‘ignore the noise’. Not that I’m Brady… but I’ve competed against many opponents, and even had a couple teammates, who have made negative comments towards me on the court, whether to try and take my mind off the game or to demotivate me. It was hard at first but I’ve learned to not let it get to me. Mental toughness is a necessary characteristic for those who wish to proceed to higher levels of any sport, and it is something that I pride myself on.
Apart from the game, I’m involved in my church and also earn very good grades. I’m not one to slack off. In group projects, for instance, I always take the lead role by guiding my classmates, or even filling in for people that need the help, and push to look for opportunities to to exceed the requirements. Moving forward, I hope to have the chance to showcase my skills to you to prove that my game and attitude are everything that I’ve written about it.
