Personal Statement
I was taught at a very young age that nothing will be given to me, I will have to work hard and earn what I want. This is true for everything in life, my role on the team, my grades and the respect I receive from others. I worked very hard last summer between my sophomore and junior years to develop both athletically and academically. I am a “B” level student and scored 1160 on my SATs. I am involved outside the classroom as I have competed not only for the school basketball and baseball teams through the Fall of my sophomore year, I also competed throughout the Spring and Summer for my club baseball teams. It was only after my sophomore year and having grown nearly 10 inches since starting high school that I was asked to join the local AAU basketball squad. A coach once said to us that we need to look inside ourselves and make a conscious effort to be the better teammate, which would then lead others to be better teammates. This is how winning teams become successful, because they play for each other, and they communicate with each other. That is how I have approached my game. I have developed versatility , having been a swing guard during my younger years. I can easily adapt to whatever role my team needs from me. Now standing nearly 6’6”’ I am often asked to play under the basket and at other times I am asked to play the wing. It was over the past summer that I was asked to handle the ball and initiate our offense. I would like the opportunity to take my game to the next level , competing on the collegiate stage while at the same time, earning my degree to build a solid foundation, preparing me for adult life. I look forward to discussing with you further your program and where I may fit within your system.
