Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Cooper Deck. I am heading into my Senior Year (Class of 2016) at New Hartford High in central New York. NH ranks nationally as a "TOP 200" high school. I take pride in my school work & sports. For the past five years, I have been an honor roll student with a 94.0 overall GPA, all while taking AP & honors courses. I played Varsity basketball as a freshman & that team advanced to the NYS Class A, Section III Championship game at the Carrier Dome. As a Sophomore, I started at point guard & lead the team in assists. As a Junior, I played point & swing guard , leading the team in minutes played & assists. I was second in scoring and rebounds per game. I always put my team & teammates first, I love playing basketball.

I feel that I offer leadership & have been Captain on most of my teams (in both sports). I listen to my coaches & try to motivate the people around me to be the best they can be because I know it will pay off in the end. I try my hardest in everything I do; on and off the court.

I am open to many different kinds of college's too! I am interested in communications, but I am not 100% decided on a college major at this time. I am going to wait and explore options so I can pick a major that fits me best.  My goals are 1.) Work hard in school & sports. Graduate with high honors. 2.) Win the Tri Valley League & NYS Section III title in 2015/2016. 3.) Play four years college basketball & graduate in the major that I chose. I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking your time out to read this. It really means a lot to me. Again, thank you and have a great day.

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsInducted into Sanger Chapter of National Honor Society in May of 2015. Scholarship, Service, Character, & Leadership are the requirement. I was awared the PTA (Parent Teachers Association) citizenship award of the 8th grade class. I was one of 5 other students in my class to receive this award. It was chosen by the teachers and the PTA. I also won the John McNair Humanitarian Award my freshman year. This was a huge honor a humbling experience for me. This award was given to one member of my class who exhibited a great attitude and work ethic in and out of the classroom and inspires others around him by his/her positive actions. This award was elected by the teachers of my class.
  • ActivitiesProject Purple President. Drug & Alcohol awareness program. Best Buddies: Helping kids my age with special needs and disabilities (Now called Pal 2 Pal). I was the president in 9th grade of this club. I was also selected freshman class Vice President. In this role I raise money to benefit our school and give back to the community. This year we will be helping provide families in Africa with stoves. By doing this we make their lives much easier. The stoves a very user-friendly and not dangerous and they also provide the families with a great food supply. My Sophomore year I was selected class President. In this role I plan fund raising events in order to make money for my class. Another club I joined this year was Project Purple. This is a club that inspires kids to be happy with being themselves and to stay away from any drugs and/or alcohol. I also plan on becoming a part of the leadership core. This is a group that serves as leaders in the community.
