Since I can remember, my goal has been to play college basketball following in the footsteps of my two uncles. Every choice I made from attending camps, being a ball boy as a youth, to accepting the many different roles throughout my high school career has prepared me for the next level of basketball. My junior year, I was called upon to be a scorer averaging 14 points a game. I helped lead my team to a first round playoff berth and was recognized First Team All-League and Honorable Mention All-State. This year’s team developed more scorers and I was asked to assume a defensive lockdown role which I have embraced. I have been assigned to the opponent’s first or second leading scorer in every game this year. Excelling in my new role, I have been able to shut down the opponent’s scorers while maintaining an average of 10 points a game. As second year team captain, I have assumed leadership responsibility and am proud to say we are once again league champions, ready to make a run at the state tournament. Switching roles has helped me grow personally learning there are many ways to lead and support a team. Scoring is important, however being a lockdown defender, a good leader and a strong teammate is just as valuable.
Not only am I a leader among my athletic teams, but I have also accepted leadership roles in my school. Currently I am student body president. As an active member of FFA I have competed on many teams including Soils, Meats, and Livestock judging. In November of 2017 I traveled to Indianapolis as a member of the National Forestry team. I have been a member of National Honor Society for 3 years and am ranked 9th out of 58 students with a 3.81 GPA on track for an Honors Diploma and Academic Excellence. This winter I have volunteered as a YMCA coach for a kindergarten basketball team as well as a Boys and Girls Club 4th grade boys’ basketball team. Working for the same employer for the past 3 summers on a 100 acre ranch as a groundskeeper has taught me to be punctual, follow a list of directions, and multitask.
When not in school, I enjoy spending time with my family. My dad and I ride dirt bikes and hunt throughout Oregon. My family enjoys spending time together riding four wheelers on the Oregon dunes, hiking, and working on the family Dairy farm. I value the traditions my family observes and understand how lucky I am to have the support from everyone in my family and community.
My senior year has been full of accomplishments including receiving first team all-league recognition for both offense and defense and third team all-state recognition both offensively and defensively in football. I fully expect to be recognized all league this year in basketball and hope to bring home a state tournament trophy. I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically and am confident the skills I bring to your program will make your team stronger.
