I won the 2020 Oregon 4A Cross Country Championship and broke our school record by running a 15:26 5K. Due to the adjusted seasons, because of covid, we went straight from cross country to track where I ran a 8:44 to win at the 3000m at the 2021 Oregon 4A Track and Field Championship this May. I ran the track and field 3000 meters with an upper thigh strain that occurred three weeks earlier when I initially broke our school record for the 3000m by running a 8:47. This strain caused me to drop out of the 1500 during our district meet.
Because of this success I would love to be part of a DI or DII school. My times came late in the 2020-2021 school year as our seasons were so close to graduation. I'm headed to run with Lane Community College next year, but I am very interested to competing at a four year university and become a contributing teammate in the future.
I trained hard this past year because I had some amazing teammates and we were in great shape to win an Oregon 4A Cross Country State title. I was focused, committed and determined to be the best teammate I could be. I ran more miles than in any other year. Yet injuries had a different plan for two of my teammates and crushed our aspirations of winning a team state title. I thought I'd be a contributing team member as the 2nd or 3rd runner. Instead, I ended up being the first runner and did better than I anticipate.
I did well this season, but I feel empty because everything I did was as an individual and we did not win as a team. I feel that I am humble, hardworking and I can endure a high degree of pain. I believe that the best runners probably have just as much determination, drive and dedication that I have, what might make me a little different is that I want to grow, become stronger and win with a team.
