I have always enjoyed playing or watching basketball, I just like how fast paced the game is. When I was in 7th grade I finally got the chance to play for my school team. My mom didn't want me to play and she had made me quit. I was homeschooled for 10th grade and I was abandoned by my family a year after. I had the opportunity to move in with a family friend and he let me play basketball for my 11th grade year. I started on the junior varsity team and sat the bench for our varsity and I loved it. For the jv team I was our leading scorer and the reason I started jv was so I could get some experience with playing highschool basketball. Basketball is a way for me to cope with being abandoned and I see it as an opportunity for me in the future. I want to be able to play basketball at the college level because it would help me get through college knowing that after the school day I have a game or practice. I like being a part of the team because I am a team player.
My biggest strong suit in basketball is my defense and rebounding. I also am a hustle player. If a ball is on the floor near me I am going to dive for it and give my team a chance to score. I have always taken pride in knowing that whenever I go to talk to my coach he always talks about my defense. Whenever I go to play pickup basketball the team will pick me and the other team will say “watch out for Brooklyn he always gets the rebounds”. My goal is to get through college playing basketball and show my mom that I was able to do it even when she wasn't willing to put in the effort to help me.
