My name is Dawson Snyder and I am a junior at Shanksville Stonycreek School District. We are one of the smallest K-12 public schools in Pennyslvania. I really like going to Shanksville because outsiders don’t think we are able to excel because we are so small but we work hard to prove them wrong.
I have ALWAYS had a passion for sports, mainly basketball. Maybe my influence with basketball came from my dad who has been a high school basketball coach since I was a baby. I grew up in the gym and on the court. It is part of who I am.
I have played varsity high school basketball since I was a freshman. I have also been playing AAU travel basketball since I was in 6th grade with the Mt. Cat team. This past season another coach encouraged me to try out for a different, more visible, AAU team called the Doug West D-Fenders out of Altoona, PA. Doug West played in the NBA years ago for Minnesota and Vancouver. Approximately 100 boys tried out for that team but I was fortunate to secure one of the eight positions. It has been a terrific change for me. We have played at Hoop Group and Big Shots tournaments and in the Boo Williams Classic. My position is shooting guard but my best asset is my defense. My dad always told me that a good defense wins games. I do all I can to help my team win games and try to be a leader to push us to the next level with my offensive and defensive play.
My stats are available from my last basketball season as a sophomore - please reach out to me to request a formal copy. We ended our season making the Sweet 16 in state playoffs for the PIAA, District 5 – Single A division. I averaged 12 PPG, 3 Assists, 5 Rebounds, and 110 steals out of 27 games for our season. We took the WestPAC title, the District 5 title, and as I said, moved into the Sweet 16 spot; I am so very proud to be a part of my high school team as we are one of the smallest public school teams in PA. We are “no-namers” that kept people asking who we were.
Academically, I take honors classes and carry a 3.7 GPA. My SAT’s are scheduled and I will be taking those in a few months. In the community and through the school I try to stay involved. Being a member of our church youth group has given me an opportunity to focus on the needs of others.
If you could make time during the AAU season, I am inviting you to come and watch me play at some of the bigger tournaments we will be attending this year. A schedule can be provided as soon as Mr. West or Coach Chris Fleegle release our new spring AAU schedule. I am working to coordinate a copy of my game film highlighting my game and skills. If you would like a copy, please connect with me and I will be sure you receive a copy when it is complete.
Coach: I am passionate about life (especially basketball), I am very coachable, I am willing to help my team grow and succeed, I love opportunity, and I will do what it takes to bring home a win. As our high school locker room sign says above the door, “Pain is temporary, Pride is forever”. I take pride in playing the game I love
